Where Do Ideas Come From?

People sometimes talk about creativity as though an idea simply appears one day.
Goblin’s Refuge didn’t happen like that.
It grew from music, memories, gaming, people, and a lot of drives to work where I had time to disappear into a world that only existed inside my head.
Sometimes It Starts With Music
Music has played a huge role in how I imagine Goblin’s Refuge.
I spent countless drives listening to 2WEI, Hans Zimmer, and Filip Lacković. While their music played, I imagined scenes, characters, battles, emotional moments, and pieces of a world that didn't physically exist yet.
Their music gave my imagination somewhere to go, and I am incredibly grateful for that.
Built From Memories
Goblin’s Refuge was also inspired by something much more personal.
People.
Before this larger universe existed, Goblin’s Refuge Once was a gaming community that gave me memories I will probably carry for the rest of my life.
We laughed, argued, survived, and did completely ridiculous things together.
Without realizing it, we were creating stories.
Over time, pieces of those memories found their way into Goblin’s Refuge. Names, personalities, jokes, relationships, and even characters were inspired by people I knew.
Even Unit 5-17 was inspired by my old gaming group.
That's why I mean it when I say:
I hope that one day the world can love Goblin’s Refuge and that you become legends.
What's Next?
The first Goblin’s Refuge comic is getting close to being finished.
Once it's complete, I'll return to the survival game. Many of the mechanics are already built. The next step is bringing the world around them to life.
And from there, the dream gets even bigger.
The survival game. The RPGs. The characters, stories, and worlds connecting everything together.
There's still a lot of work ahead, but Goblin’s Refuge isn't something that only exists in my imagination anymore.
Pieces of it are already real.
Pay Attention
One of my favorite things about writing Goblin’s Refuge is foreshadowing.
Nothing is there just because.
A name, symbol, character, object, or seemingly unimportant piece of dialogue might mean something much later.
Everything within Goblin’s Refuge has a purpose.
I want readers to eventually go back and say:
"Wait... that was there the whole time?"
So if you're following the comic, pay attention.
You never know which tiny detail is telling you what's coming next.
From Mother Hubbard’s Creative Pantry
Mother Hubbard’s Creative Pantry is my creative business. Goblin’s Refuge is my original world.
They're different, but both come from the same part of me that loves taking something I can imagine and figuring out how to make it exist.
Every comic panel finished, every character created, and every game mechanic built brings Goblin’s Refuge a little closer.
And there's something pretty incredible about looking at something that once existed only inside your head and realizing:
Look. It's starting to exist.
